Albert "Al" Waskiewicz Jr. ’79 NC was a big man in stature, and he had a big heart. He was a Bridesburg native, a graduate of North Catholic ’79, served on many alumni committees and was President of the Alumni Association from 2016 – 2019. Al was also a Trustee of the Northeast Catholic Memorial Scholarship Fund. Al was an avid boater with his family and opened Philadelphia Boat Supply Store serving boaters along the length of the Delaware river and had customers as far as Florida. Al held many officer positions as he did with Alumni Association such as President of the Pennsylvania Boating Association traveling all over the state of Pennsylvania connecting with all boaters.
Al shared his passion for boating and the Alumni Association with his family, friends, neighbors, anyone he spoke to. With his unique personality, people immediately became his friend. When Al was President, at the Alumni Board Christmas Dinner, he passed out pairs of socks and handkerchiefs to everyone. When questioned, Al with his big smile replied, “you will need one of these one day or another.”
He was the captain of his boat and did it his way. We will miss his laugh, his smile and sense of humor. We hope he meets up with Fr. Kilty, and other alumni brothers who have passed, for some more laughs.
